Samothraki, like most of the islands of the North Aegean, is green. However, unlike most Greek islands, most of Samothraki’s beaches are not sandy but with pebbles and little stones.

Exception to this, is the beach of Pachia Ammos, in the south of the island, which is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Greece, with breathtaking views, at islands Imbros and Tenedos. Over this beach, stands Panagia Krimniotissa, a magnificent chapel built on the cliff overlooking the sea and the Aegean, Imvros, Tenedos and Lemnos.

A short walk from Pachia Ammos, well-hidden and quiet is the wonderful small beach of Karkani.

Vatos is another sandy beach, but access is available only by boat or climbing! It’s safer to get there by boat, rather than climbing unless you are an experienced climber and follow the right directions. Otherwise it is possible to get lost on the way. However you choose to get there, the experience is guaranteed to be unique.

The ponds of Samothraki are a treasure hidden in the mountain. Dozens of small natural pools filled with the cold waterfalls. Gria Vathra and Fonias are the most popular.

Kipi beach, also on the south side of the island, with deep clear waters, is a wonderful and different beach with black volcanic pebbles. Visitors are taken away by this beach, especially by the view at dawn. Kipi beach is not organized but the scenery is amazing. If you are in the mood for some boating, you will get the opportunity to visit several small creeks with caves, turquoise waters, white round pebbles and shells. At these beaches you may find nature lovers or people who spend all of their vacation days on the island, staying in one of these bays.
